The Lone Bellow on WNYC’s Soundcheck

Earlier this week, during my lunch break, I went down to The Greene Space for WNYC’s Soundcheck show featuring New York-via the South-band The Lone Bellow conversing with host John Schaefer and performing songs from their new album Then Came the Morning. The album from Zach Williams, Brian Elmquist and Kanene Doheney Pipkin is a collaboration with Aaron Dessner of The National and was produced by Peter Katis. It was released in January on Descendent Records and has a solid 77 at Metacritic. The trio will be performing at some festivals this summer including a couple of my favorites, the Clearwater Festival in New York and the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island. I hope to catch one of their full sets soon as the WNYC set was just a few songs long. Video of that performance and a few more of my photos are after the jump.

Torres on WNYC Soundcheck

Yesterday I dropped by the Greene Space for an afternoon taping of WNYC’s Soundcheck show hosted by John Schaefer with featured guest, Torres (the musician known as Mackenzie Scott). WNYC noted,  “With Sprinter, her second record (out May 5 via Partisan Records), Torres again finds fertility in juxtaposition, while mining her own biography and anxieties.”

WNYC taped the event and a stream is currently available. You can find the video and a couple of photos below the jump.
