Hurray for the Riff Raff‘s Alynda Segarra has generally aligned the band’s music with Americana, folk and blues. But with the release of her new album The Navigator, a concept album about a character named Navita Milagros Negrón (a placeholder for Segarra herself), Segarra has tapped into her Puerto Rican roots to stir up something fresh. Segarra didn’t dwell on her new direction at the album release show at Baby’s All Right last night (3/8), she let the music speak for itself. She did, however, reference the political climate frequently, including acknowledging that her show was on the A Day Without A Woman strike but that she would observe her strike for her next show.
